The auction wll feature a large group of rare Matchbox cars,
including 2 prototypes, which are among more than 400 diecast lots.
Animated "Black Man" Bank, c.1930, Saalheimer & Strauss, Germany;
7”, lever extends tongue to deposit coin while eyes roll; this is a
nice example from this sought–after series of banks (others include “Bonzo” & several Mickey Mouse variations); trap present, but no key;
a few small areas of paint loss to face, but they do not distract
from the overall appearance; C8.
“Superman” 500 Piece Picture Puzzle “Superman Over the City”, 1940,
Saalfield, 11 x 8.5” box, makes a 16 x 20” color puzzle, appears
unused (we’re told it’s complete) in crisp C9 box; a great pre-war SM
piece.
“Shootin’ Shell Fanner and Buckle Gun 2 Gun Holster Set”, 1958,
Mattel, this is the deluxe set w/ a still soft “top grain cowhide
holster” & six lead / brass dummy bullets; a mint “buckle
gun” (releases & fires as you push out your stomach); a mint Fanner
cap pistol & 8 Shootin’ Shell cartridges w/ 18 bullet noses in cloth
bag; this incredible set is complete as issued in crisp C9 box.
“1953 Packard Patrician” (restored), 1950s, Alps Shoji Co., Japan,
16”, tin friction; this piece was consigned by the restorer, who
enlisted his uncle (a custom jeweler) to perfectly reproduce both
headlights, the side chrome strips & the hood ornament out of real
silver, which was then chrome–plated to match the existing parts; the
result is spectacular; considered to represent one of the pinnacles
of Japanese tinplate, this is among the rarest & most desirable tin
vehicles ever made.
