A private collection of antique and vintage toys will go up for auction in northern New Hampshire on Saturday, July 28, 2007. The collection represents approximately 40 years of collecting by the late Buddy Lucas of Lancaster, NH and includes more than 400 cast iron and tin toys, featuring motorcycles, automobiles, airplanes, and games. Ammonoosuc River Auction Company of Lisbon, NH has been commissioned by the family to handle the sale. Mike Carver, a NH/VT licensed auctioneer and owner of Ammonoosuc River Auction Company, will call the sale.
At the heart of the collection is a wide variety of toy motorcycles, the result of Buddy’s passion for the motor bikes as a young man and his lifelong search for the miniature version of these ‘grown-up’ toys. Over the years, his collection grew to include a variety of toy vehicles and other collectible toys. When it comes up for sale later this month, the collection is sure to give today’s antique and vintage toy buyers plenty to love as well and features wind up, friction, and die cast toys, Indian & Harley Davidson motorcycles, and cast iron and tin toys by such well-known toymakers as Arcade, Hubley, Schuco, Champion, Kingsbury, Tonka, Tootsie, Lindy, Marx, Gely, Speed, Cop, Auburn, Buddy L, Alps, Haji, Moto, Arnold, Steelcraft, Structo, American Flyer, ATC, TM, T.N., Technofix, Gama, KO, Hudson, IY, T.T., and YTO. A few highlights of the sale will include a Kingsbury tin biplane from the 1920’s, a fire wagon with a team of horses from the late 1800’s, and a very large cast iron snow roller, including eight horses, c1900.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to sell this very special collection for the Lucas family,” states Mike Carver. “It is clear from the quality of the items that Mr. Lucas cared very deeply for each piece. I’m confident that current collectors will find some very attractive additions to their own collections.”
